Orientation Shmorientation
SLU KSP Compound. Karen=Rich, White people in Kenya.
Bascially I was so tired the first few days that I really do not remember anything but a few people talking to me, ripping my conga on a table, tripping over a stump, dancing to electro music with my sweet WASHU friends, and climbing a mountain during a cultural presentation. Oh and Tusker Beer is amazing.
and.. the group is awesome. Half SLU, half other colleges.
Hello Nairobi and SLU(t)s
3:30 AM. Time of arrival in Nairobi. The group flight arrived at 6:30 AM. So I had three hours to spare when I arrived in Kenya.
Customs. I had to put my fingers on this machine and also they did not grant me more than 3 months for my VISA even though I paid for 6... oh welcome to Africa!
I sat around with this amazing German couple while I waited for the other nineteen! Well I actually did all my homework during those three hours.

I truly was not looking forward to flying to Egypy by myself. Especially since there were no TVs in the seats (I called my mom to tell her this fact ha). But the man I sat next to was amazing and working in NYC. He told me that since I was circle face I must be Irish. This international flight was the first I slept entirely through. Plus the food was actually pretty amazing. The Egyptian people were extremely friendly and talkative on the flight. They made me feel very comfortable.
When I descended, I was able to see the pyramids. Unbelievable. My friend on the plane set me up with the Egyptair people and they provided a free hotel room and dinner during my ten-hour layover. I was extremely nervous but it was legit. I was able to take a nap and eat an incredible Egyptian meal. Bizarre. Plus everyone was dressed in burkas so I felt super out of place all the time ha.
New York, New York
When arriving in New York, I truly had a terrible perception of how long it takes to travel from one location to another even though they may be a few miles apart.
First day in the city, Times Square, Central Park, Brooklyn, Buffalo Exchange, Thai food, Hookah Bar, Manhattan, Penn Station, China reunion.
I thought when I came here I would be congested and overwhelmed but NYC definitely has a very homey feel. Brooklyn is especially interesting to me. Quite a hipster scene. Bought my first TOMS. They are paint splattered and cheap.
Most underrated method of travel in America
I took the train on August 10 to Rye to visit New York City for the FIRST time. After lots of hectic planning, Sandrine decided to take me in. It only cost me $45 to travel to NYC by Amtrak instead of $200 plus baggage fees. American airlines suck and are super inflated. Plus riding the train is incredibly entertaining. Three seats to yourself, great views, easy to sleep on, and no baggage fees!
